IT IS NORTHBOUND ON THE RIGHT. CALTRANS SAYS EXPECT DELAYS. THIS CAN BE LOST AND AFFECT THE W/X HIGHWAY AS PEOPLE TRY TO MERGE ONTO I-5 NORTHBOUND. THIS IS NEW P STREET, L STREET AND J STREET. IT’S A RAMP THEY HAVE COMPLETELY BLOCKED. THEY ARE COMPLETELY BLOCKED. YOU CAN SEE CHP WHO ARE FAIR AGAINST PROTESTERS FEARING WE WILL TAKE ANOTHER SKYCAMERA WITH A DIFFERENT VANTAGE POINT. YOU CAN SEE THEM CREATING THIS FINE WHILE THEY WERE AT THE CAPITOL TODAY, THIS PROTESTANT GROUP. THEY ARE PRO-CHOICE AND PROTEST THE SUPREME COURT’S DECISION TO ANNUL ROE V. WADE. SOME OF THEM WEAR FLAGS ON THIS FOURTH OF JULY FESTIVAL. THERE ARE A HANDLING OF PEOPLE, SOME OF THEM HAVE BIKES. FOR DRIVERS WHO ARE STRANDED, THERE IS REALLY NO WAY OUT. FOR A MOMENT THEY WERE JUST ON THE RAMP, slow moving traffic. NOW THEY’VE COMPLETELY MADE THEIR WAY, THE PROTESTERS, COMPLETELY BLOCKING I-5. THE ONLY WORD WE GET FROM CALTRANS IS JUST TO EXPECT DELAYS. THIS IS OUR CAMERA FROM THE EXCHANGE HOTEL. WE HAVE SEVERAL POINTS OF VIEW. WE WATCH THE COPTER LIVE WE WILL GIVE YOU A BETTER VIEW BECAUSE WE WANT TO SHOW YOU THE BACKUP. SOME OF THEM ARE PUTTING THEIR HANDS IN THE AIR, TALKING LOUD, AT LEAST IT SEEMS THEY HAVE A LOT OF ACTION GOING HERE’S A POINT OF VANTAGE TO SHOW YOU — WE CAN TAKE OUR TRAFFIC CARD TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF HOW DISTANCE THE TRAFFIC GOES. YOU WILL SEE, IT’S NOT JUST NORTH, IT’S SOUTH. THIS LONG RED LINE IS JUST IN THE MIDDLE OF DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO. THESE PROTESTERS ARE ON THE RIGHT% BETWEEN I AND P STREETS. WE ARE SEEING SLOWDOWNS ON THE W/X PART. THANK YOU HEATHER. WE BEGIN TO SEE THE RIPPLE EFFECT BEGINNING TO SPREAD INTO TRANSPORTATION FROM THE SOUTHERN SACRAMENTO AREA. IT WILL TAKE A LITTLE–A LITTLE TIME. NO WORD ON WHEN LAW ENFORCEMENT PLANS TO MOVE PROTESTERS OR IF PROTESTERS PLAN TO MOVE THEIR OWN. WE DO NOT KNOW. WE JUST KNOW THIS IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW. MANY PEOPLE TRY TO GET WHERE THEY WANT TO GO DURING THIS FOURTH OF JULY HOLIDAY. WHERE THEY WISH TO GO, MANY PEOPLE HAVE A DAY OFF. SOME PEOPLE’S PLANS AND MAYBE WHY THESE PEOPLE HAD TIME TO GO OUT AND MAKE THIS PROTEST. IT IS A NATIONAL HOLIDAY CELEBRATING THE COUNTRY’S INDEPENDENCE. AS WE ZOOM IN, IT SEEMS TO APPROACH THE VEHICLES THAT ARE STOPPED. OUR OTHER VIEW, THERE ARE OFFICERS. IT SEEMS NOW THAT THEY WALK THE OTHER WAY, THIS MAY END. THEY MAY BE VACANT I-5. IT SEEMS TO HAVE A CONE, A FEW CONES. WE WILL KEEP FOLLOWING THIS AND IT LOOKS LIKE THESE PEOPLE MIGHT LEAVE

Hundreds of protesters blocked lanes on Interstate 5 near J Street in downtown Sacramento on Monday. The group was demonstrating on July 4 following the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade, according to social media. The group gathered at 10 a.m. at K and 14th streets before beginning to march through the area. After leaving the I-5 area, protesters returned to the State Capitol. This is a developing story. Stick with KCRA 3 for the latest.
